NEIL Baker believes that Slough Town were exceptional and top draw in their 4-1 win against Bognor Regis Town in the FA Trophy first qualifying round tie on Saturday.

Elijah Adebayo stole the show on the day with a hat-trick, his first in senior football, after joining The Rebels on loan for a month from Fulham.

But, Slough eliminated Bognor, semi-finalists last season, without numerous key players to set up a second qualifying round tie away at Welsh club Merthyr Town on November 12.

“I’m delighted,” Baker told Rebels Radio. “Bognor are always a good side and you can see by the way they like to play, it was going to be a tough match.

“In the first half we played some exceptional stuff with three great finishes and I thought we were well deserving of the half-time lead.

“In the second half we probably stepped off it a little bit if I’m brutally honest, but sometimes it’s difficult when you’re playing against 10 men.

“Bognor kept the ball well at times but we always looked like we were going to score, and their keeper has probably made about eight or nine saves just from James Dobson.

“To win 4-1 against Bognor is massive and brilliant, and it’s £2,700 in the prize kitty.”

He added: “We had a good week in the build-up. We won the game against Dorchester and then had a nice and relaxing Thursday.

“We got all the lads together and said there was no pressure.

“We were missing some big players out there but we still put in a good performance.”
