SLOUGH sensation Andrew Doe has vowed to take the Queensbury Boxing League by storm when he makes his debut at Epsom Downs Racecourse on Saturday, April 19.

Welterweight Doe, 20, will take on Ahmed Ibrahim of Scotland in a four round contest in the popular televised competition.

And the three times Amateur Boxing Association champion has already set his sights on winning titles this year as he bids to become the first champion in the competition from Slough.

Doe is confident his wealth of experience gained during his time in the amateur ranks will give him a big advantage when he starts his quest for glory.

He said: “Competing in the Queensbury Boxing League in front of such a huge audience is a great platform for me to really get noticed, and I’m going there to put on a big performance and get the win.

“This is a good step for me after calling time on my amateur career. After doing what I could there, I feel it is time to show the country what I can do and be one of the division’s biggest names.” Doe does not need to look far for inspiration after watching close friend and Olympian Billy Joe Saunders rise to stardom by winning British and Commonwealth titles.

The Slough native believes boxing in the league will give him a huge boost as he bids to emulate Saunders’ triumphs.

He explained: “I’ve seen Billy Joe do Saunders do really well in his boxing career and it definitely motivates me to do the same.

“I’m getting up at 6.30am and doing my road work, and then I am straight into the gym after work for everything else. I’m taking this chance very seriously.

“The shows fans are going to see an exciting performance from me and, with my speed, movement and fitness, I’m going to be in fantastic shape ready for the big night.” His debut will feature on a packed undercard, headlined by Cuban sensation Yisan Rodriguez defending his British light cruiserweight title.
