HERE’S how the Slough, Windsor, and Maidenhead MPs voted on a motion that banned fracking in England, which was treated as a confidence vote into Truss’s government.

The Labour motion was defeated by the Conservatives, who were whipped to vote down the anti-fracking motion.

Any Tory MP who voted defied the whips’ instructions were threatened with expulsion. This caused fury among MPs on which way to vote on the controversial issue.

Despite there being 357 Conservative MPs, 326 voted against Labour’s motion. Dozens of Tory representatives were put in a difficult position as they previously voiced opposition to fracking.

They were forced to vote against the motion as it would be treated as a confidence vote in Liz Truss’s government. The recently appointed prime minister is facing calls from her own party to resign following economic turmoil from the mini-budget.

Windsor’s long-serving Conservative MP Adam Afriyie voted against the anti-fracking motion whereas Slough’s Labour representative Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi voted for it.

Maidenhead’s MP Theresa May was among the 33 Conservative MPs not recorded supporting the government.

While no Conservatives sided with Labour, some either abstained or indicated that they could not vote for legitimate reasons.

There was anger at Wednesday’s vote on the methods used to get Tory MPs to side with the government. Politicians claimed Conservative MPs were being “manhandled” and bullied into opposing the motion.

The government has played down these allegations, saying no bullying or physical contact occurred.
