The owners of a major Slough retail park have said that it is not their intention to retain the area in its current form.

SEGRO, who own Slough Trading Estate, bought the Bath Road Shopping Park for £120.25 million in January.

Prior to the purchase the retail park had seen some huge losses, with Argos, Mothercare, Outfit and Furniture Village all vacating their units.

Since the sale, the retail park is largely the same and McDonald's has made it their permanent home by buying the drive-thru they operate in the area.

However, on Tuesday, September 5, New Look closed in the area, with rumours speculating Next will soon follow suit. Next have been contacted for comment.

The Observer approached SEGRO for their plans for the space.

A spokesperson for SEGRO said: "SEGRO’s core asset base is industrial real estate, so it would not be our intention to retain the park in its current form, particularly as there is no demand for more than a third of the existing units."

It has been noted that currently, four units stand empty - soon to be five with New Look closed.

The spokesperson added: "There are no specific plans in place for the future of the park and until we have considered all the options we will continue to manage the park alongside the small number of other retail assets we own on Farnham Road."

There has reportedly been "little interest" in the vacant units, despite SEGRO saying they are still open to having conversations with potential occupiers.

"We are in active negotiations with a retailer for one of the units," the spokesperson added.

While the details about leases with current occupiers are confidential and it is unknown when they expire, SEGRO says they are "assessing their options" in the context of current market conditions.
