NEIL BAKER insists that Slough Town are out to banish memories of a rare league defeat when Kings Langley visit Arbour Park this Saturday (3pm).

The Rebels have been without a fixture in the Southern Premier Division since the 1-0 home loss to promotion rivals Hitchin Town two weeks ago.

In the interim, they made it through to the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy at the expense of Merthyr, recovering from falling two goals behind to draw 2-2 in Wales on Saturday, before winning the replay 2-0 at Arbour Park on Tuesday.

Slough can look forward to a visit from Wingate & Finchley in the next round on November 26, but all focus has turned toward getting three points this weekend and closing the gap between them and leaders Leamington.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Rebels joint-manager Baker told the Observer. “We’ve had to wait two weeks since the Hitchin defeat so we are looking to try and get that out of our system.

Kings Langley are a good side. They work hard for each other and are a very close unit. Their managers have just recently gone but it hasn’t overly affected their playing staff.

“It will be a really tough game but we hope we can try to pick up three points and push us over that 40-point barrier.”

Drawing comparisons to the Ryman Premier Division where Havant & Waterlooville sit top, Baker said: “You can get carried away sometimes. If we were in the there on 38 points we would be top by four.

“It has just happened that there are three sides in our league that have been pretty incessant so far this season and obviously we’re one of them.

“We’ve just got to concentrate on each game at a time, and our aim is to try and be in the play-offs come the end of the season.

“I think we’ve got the players to do it but it’s a long season and you just never know, but we’re looking to bounce back with three points.”

Looking further ahead to the Trophy and Wingate & Finchley, Baker said: “They were a really good side last year and we played them in pre-season.

“I know quite a few of the lads there. They will come and want to play, and I’m sure it will be a tough game. It’s probably on a part to Bognor or someone like that really, but we’ve got home advantage.”
