THE Slough Borough Council has announced that skaters should have a temporary ice rink in February.

The Ice Rink Company, the provider of the temporary rink, will start work to construct the ice platform early next week, with work expected to take around a month.

The temporary rink will be in place whilst the main ice arena is undergoing a multi-million pound refurbishment and extension.

Alison Hibbert, leisure services manager, said: “This is excellent news and we're looking forward to working with the Ice Rink Company to make sure the installation goes as smoothly as possible.”

Councillor Joginder Bal, commissioner for leisure and environment, said: “I know skaters have been waiting for news on when the temporary rink will be installed and we're very pleased to be able to announce the wait is nearly over.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience and to bear with us whilst the Ice Rink Company starts installation.”

The Slough Ice Arena was closed back on October 22 for a £7.7 million refurbishment, while the installation of the temporary has already been delayed twice.
