SLOUGH slumped to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of old adversaries Leicester in the Women’s Premier Division on Saturday.

Captain Kat McGonigle admitted it was arguably their worst performance of the season so far.

“Obviously we were all very disappointed with the result,” she said. “We just did not connect as a team. We didn’t play particularly well. We just appeared to get everything wrong on the day.

“That said, we did have quite a few chances and won a couple of corners in the second-half, but nothing went our way in front of goal. At one point we had an open goal but the ball went just wide of the post. It was just one of those days.

“We actually felt it was our worst performance of the season so far, but Leicester deserve some credit. They did the job they came to do, played well and got the win.”

Following their crucial win at bottom club Reading the previous week, the Pink and Blacks made a promising start and shaded the opening exchanges.

However, from virtually their first serious attack, Leicester dented Slough’s confidence by taking a sixth-minute lead through Rachel Mack.

This not only put Slough on the back foot but enabled the visitors to start dictating the pace.

PHOTO: Bobbie Bansal bagged a hat-trick as Slough men beat Staines 6-1 on Saturday to remain top of the MBBO Regional Two table.

They enjoyed the better of the possession and a series of penalty corners led to Maddy Newlyn cracking home the second goal in the 27th minute.

Slough were not even able to take advantage of Leicester players receiving temporary suspensions.

The door closed on a bad day at the office when they conceded a third goal from a Lizzie Honormand penalty corner right on the final whistle.

The first half of the league programme came to an end last weekend, but not for Slough, as they have an extra fixture this Saturday (1pm) when they host East Grinstead at Upton Court Park.

The game has been brought forward from mid-February when the Sussex side will be involved in the European Indoor Trophy in Lithuania.

“It’s pleasing this game is taking place as we didn’t want to finish the year on a disappointing note,” commented McGonigle.

“We only lost 1-0 at their place a few weeks ago and we could easily have got more out of the game.

“We will be looking to play well again. I’m hoping we can pick up a point, if not three, as it would put us in a pretty nice position going into the mid-season break.”

BOBBIE Bansal bagged a hat-trick as unbeaten league leaders Slough slammed Staines 6-1 last Saturday.

It left them with maximum points from nine Middx, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Regional Two games, and a five-point lead over second club, Amersham & Chalfont.

Ranjeev Deol continued his good run of form with two more goals, while Sunny Sanga added the other in another impressive team performance.

Bansal and Deol have now netted 14 and 11 goals respectively, putting them second and third in the division’s scoring list.

Ian Muir’s consolation strike for tailenders Staines was only the seventh goal Slough have conceded this season.

Slough are away to second-bottom West Hampstead this Saturday.
