SLOUGH have put themselves in with a great chance of playing at Wembley having remained unbeaten in their first four group games in the national indoor league.

The Pink and Blacks recorded two wins and two draws last weekend. It means they have eight points, two fewer than Premier Division leaders Bowdon Hightown at the midpoint of the league. More importantly, Slough are three points better off than Reading in fifth place.

There are four matches to go next month and the top four finishers in the league will qualify for Super Sixes day which takes place at Wembley Arena on Sunday January 29.

With all games taking place at the Phoenix Leisure Centre in Telford, Slough got off to a good start on Saturday when holding defending champions East Grinstead to a 3-3 draw.

Charley Brydon gave the Pink and Blacks a third minute lead, but they conceded three times in six minutes and still trailed 3-1 with less than five minutes left. However, two penalty goals in as many minutes from Ashpal Bhogal earned them an excellent point.

The spirited recovery boosted their confidence going into their next game against Sutton Coldfield and Slough eased to a 9-3 victory.

Laura Bailey, Betsy Ommala and Dilly Newton all scored in the first-half, which ended 3-2. Newton went on to complete her hat-trick, with Bailey and Ommala both scoring again, along with Bhogal.

Proceedings on Saturday got under way with a Berkshire derby that saw Slough and Reading finish all square at 3-3 with both sides netting their third goal in the last five minutes. Newton scored the first two goals with Bhogal adding the other.

Slough went on to beat Canterbury 3-2 in their final game of the day.

Coach Kali Takher saw his girls go two goals down in 15 minutes, but Harriet Ward halved the deficit just before the interval. Newton equalised nine minutes into the second-half and a minute later Ward grabbed the winner.

Slough keeper Asha Tranquille-Day conceded just 11 goals in the four games, the fewest of the nine competing teams.

The Pink and Blacks will look to carry that form into their remaining fixtures which take place at the same venue on January 7-8.

Amy Sheehan missed the weekend matches as she was in Berlin, and the school teacher was in the area on Monday.

She tweeted: “Odd feeling walking through Berlin after the attack. Happen (ed) only an hour after I left the market.”
