CHANGES to “nightmare” roadworks in Colnbrook have been made in a bid to stop a “history of incidents” from happening again.

Slough Borough Council has announced it has extended the central island in Brands Hill in order to stop motorists from turning right into or out of Brands Road.

The local authority said it was asked by “a lot” of residents and Colnbrook Parish Council to put in measures to stop drivers from doing this as there has been a “history of incidents”.

A spokesperson said: “Even before these changes people were not supposed to turn right into Brands Road or out of it – there was just no physical barrier to prevent it.

“It had been that way since the development of the Holiday Inn which was around 15 years ago. It is considered extremely dangerous to cross the flow of traffic at that point.”

People wanting to access Brands Road will have to go around the M4 roundabout or around the Sutton Lane gyratory using a left turn rather than a right turn.

The outstanding roadworks around Brands Hill and the temporary roundabout on Sutton Lane have been slammed as “poorly managed” and a “nightmare” after residents have complained of multiple accidents happening.

A council spokesperson said “highly visible” signage will be placed saying ‘accident black spot, please give way’ just before the roundabout.

This is said to encourage drivers to take more care when entering the roundabout from the eastbound carriageway.
