Here are the five Slough and Windsor stories you may have missed last week.

1. Victim of Colnbrook hit-and-run named amid fundraising efforts

Slough Observer:

A "hard-working" man with his whole life ahead of him has tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run.

At around 5:35pm on Thursday, February 22, in Horton Road, Colnbrook, at the junction with Beacon Court, a dark-coloured van is believed to have collided with an 18-year-old male pedestrian.

Tragically, the man has since died as a result of his injuries. 

Now named publicly as 18-year-old Adam Bouaziz, dozens of messages have been left paying tribute to his life.

2. Jolly Woodman plan would be of 'significant detriment' to the area

Slough Observer:

Plans to turn a historic pub into a place of worship have caused a divide in the community.

As previously reported, the Jolly Woodman near Burnham Beeches, closed its doors as a public house in January after a slump in trade.

Hindu group GB Shri Raghavendra Swami Brundavan has since taken over the site, with the charity raising £700,000 to acquire the property.

Having been situated in a rented space in White Hart Road in Slough since 2017, the trustees hoped to secure a permanent place for worship and community events.

3. Historic totem pole in Windsor Great Park to be 'laid to rest'

Slough Observer:

A totem pole gifted to Queen Elizabeth II in 1958 is set to be lowered this year as it reaches the "end of its natural lifespan".

The Windsor Totem Pole, located in the grounds of Virginia Waters, was gifted by the Government of British Columbia to mark the centenary of that Province.

The late Queen requested for the pole to be erected in Windsor Great Park by the Royal Engineers that year - where it has stood for over 60 years.

4. Long traffic delays on Bath Road due to roadworks 

Slough Observer:

Commuters experienced heavy traffic due to temporary traffic lights holding up vehicles at Maidenhead Bridge.

Buckinghamshire Council granted permission for Openreach to carry out utility repair and maintenance works on the Bath Road in Taplow.

The work began at 9pm on Monday, February 26 and lasted until midnight on Thursday, February 29.

5. Driver becomes lodged under bridge days after replacement works

Slough Observer:

Despite work that has gone into replacing the signs at Burnham Railway Bridge, some vehicles are still not abiding by the height restrictions.

A spokesperson for Slough Borough Council has released the following statement:

"Replacement work for the damaged signs on the Burnham Railway Bridge, on Station Rd, has been completed."
